Zengar and Thrudgelmir Fanart

Was playing Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden and at last, Zengar has shown itself in the game. Got inspired to do a fanart based on him and his Thrud, and to remember where Zengar really came from(lol, because I discovered Zengar first in Daizengar and not in the mighty Thrudgelmir) and how worthy a foe the Thrudgelmir really is.

DGG XAM-1 Daizengar/Dydenguar

It's been more than a month since I last posted an article here. Concerned that this blog would be a rundown(my favorite word, lol) in the near future, I try to think some things that can be published in this little blog of mine. And yes, here it is. After approximately 30 hours of work, finally I've finished building and painting DGG XAM-1 Dynamic General Guardian(Dydenguar) also known as Daizengar *thunder roars*. ^^

This is the first time I've build a non-bandai model kit. This one is Kotobukiya, and this model belongs to "Dydenguar with Aussenseiter Pferd Mode" kit and as you can see both Daizengar and Daitrombe(in horse form) is included to do their dreaded "Tatsumaki Zankantou" move.

The process that I did to build this one is a very different technique than the usual and also very time consuming -- what I did is I removed all parts from the frame first, then I sanded and painted and top coat them, then grouped them by their specific letters(This is for the matte parts). I also decided to do a gloss finishing to other parts(the protectors -- red and green parts) instead of following my original plan to do a matte finishing to all parts. The reason why I sanded the parts is because I'm using a paintbrush(see my Zaku II S post) and one way for the paint to stick better is to roughen the surface, also sanded surface adds more to the matte finishing effect.
Here's my workshop where I spent more than 25 hours of my time painting and coating individual parts.

So after soaking my lungs in various chemicals(top coat, paint) for so many hours, it's time to do my most favorite part of building a model kit -- the assembly!

In all my experience of assembling a kit, this one gets the 'weirdest feet design' award.

Though the feet is weird, both the shoulder and the skirt are one helluva awesome design. ^^

Daizengar is one very detailed kit in terms of the numerous parts needed to assemble
More pics of assembly.

All parts are finished, the only thing needed to do is to GATTAI!!! the parts. ^^

At last, DGG XAM 1 'Daizengar' is finished. A good eyecandy for the room indeed.

Just got a new toy to play with last last week: Canon Rebel EOS 450D. Used the camera to do a photoshoot of Daizengar(and also to practice my skills in photography). Below are more pictures of Daizengar in full action. (Some are automatic and some are manual, therefore some poses have duplicate pics)

How can Daizengar jump so high when performing "Zankantō Un'yō no Tachi/Blade of a Shining Cloud, Colossal Storm" even though it looks like there's no powerful boosters mounted on it's back? Answer is "PURE AWESOMENESS". ^^

More pics with his famous Zankatou.

My comment and reviews in bullet form:

- In my opinion, Daizengar really has a cool design. A very good addition to the part of my figure family. An eye candy indeed.
- Size is small, between the size of a normal 1/144 and 1/100.
- Very detailed even though it is small, instead of using decals or stickers it comes with more parts for more details.
- It has many points or articulation. 1 at the neck(round), 2 at shoulder(round, normal), 2 at elbow(both normal), 1 at wrist(normal), 1 at waist(round), 1 at the leg-waist connection(round), 2 at knee(both normal), and 1 at feet(round). Though it has a decent number of articulation, the details and some ugly articulation planning lessens the poses possible (one good example is the shoulder part). Parts also hard to move, a good thing for sturdy poses, bad if you want to play with it. (I think it became hard because of top coating....)
- If you're a Daizengar fan, or at least SRW fan, I think this is worth buying, though the price is quite high(higher than a perfect grade ^^;;;)
- I already learned my lesson not to paint and topcoat each parts. That procedure is very time consuming and I made a fatal mistake to topcoat individual parts -- the connectors that snaps from one part to another thickened, giving me headache while assembling the parts.
- Matte topcoat doesn't mix well with gloss, good thing I sanded the parts before handpainting it. But still there are evident mistakes that can be noticed because of that and because I'm still a newbie(in painting).

I know this became a quite long to read, so I think this is enough. If you're wondering what my next plan is, I think you already guessed it: "DGG XAM-2 Aussenseiter" aka "Daitrombe". Tatsumaki Zankantou cannot be performed without Daizengar's loyal steed. ^^

You've reached the end. Some random pic to end the post. Thanks for reading. ^^ (And also sorry for the grammar ^^;;;)

Fanart Miku

Somehow I can smell that this blog has a great possibility resulting in a rundown, so to prevent that I'll post something in here. ^^

This is my first fanart that I posted at dannychoo.com, also my first art posted here in my blog. Comments and suggestions are very welcome.^^

Also if you like to see some of my older art, you can see my rundown deviantArt account at daichouginga.deviantart.com .
Thanks for visiting. ^^

Zaku II S

Now that Zaku's fully clothed and painted, it's now time to make an impression to the girl he likes.

First he shows how gorgeous his pin-- I mean red body looks.

Looks like the girl doesn't notice him. He tries to act cooler by showing his heat axe.

Still, the girl doesn't notice him because of his Big Zam rival. He's now pissed off and angry so decided to blow his rival away.
The girl told him to stop.

Now that he caught the girl's attention, he's showing off by showing his masculinity and flexibility.

Looks like the girl is impressed. Also his rival looks impressed.

Comments about building the kit:(So lazy so I'll just do it in bullet form)
- Zaku II S ver 2.0 is a good remake. Though I haven't seen the ver 1.0, I guess this is much better because of its impressive articulation and movements.
- Also it's a good kit to practice my noobish painting skillz. I chose this figure because I want to learn how to paint gundam kits because I don't want to ruin my Daizengar w/ Aussenseiter Pferd Mode when I start to paint it, and I guess my choice was correct. Painted this kit only using 2 matte colors and a handbrush(and a red marker for monoeye), and lined this kit using a 0.5mm mechanical pencil(and a few gundam markers here and there).

Thanks to all the members of DCcom that read and commented my "naked zaku" post, your comments greatly helped me to paint and line my Zaku II S properly. ^^

I hope you like this small presentation of mine. ^^

Zaku II S - Before painting

Before I post the completed Zaku II S, I would like to post this Zaku II S internal skeleton picture. I'm really amazed at the detail of Zaku's internal structure and its maneuverability.

Zaku's shy~! xD

Introduction.

LOLOLOLOL... I created this blog just for presenting pictures of figures. I guess this will be a rundown blog in the near future... I hope it's not.
